The Torrey Canyon Disaster: Prelude to the Oil Crisis
In the spring of 1967, the massive supertanker Torrey Canyon was approaching the coast of Cornwall, loaded with 120,000 tons of oil. The captain attempted to shorten the route between the Scilly Isles and the mainland, which proved to be a fatal mistake.
