In the spring of 146 BC, the Roman general Scipio Aemilianus stood on the walls of Carthage, which was on the brink of collapse after months of siege. The Roman legions, exhausted but determined, were preparing for the final assault. Carthage, once a powerful city, was now completely cut off from supplies, and its inhabitants were suffering from hunger and disease. The Romans knew that victory was within reach, but they still faced desperate resistance.

Scipio ordered his men to break through the last lines of defense. The Roman army, equipped with new siege engines, advanced through the streets of the city. The Carthaginians defended with their last strength, but their numerical superiority and morale were broken. After several days of brutal fighting, the city fell into Roman hands. Scipio ordered the city to be burned and destroyed so that it would never again pose a threat to Rome.

The destruction of Carthage had far-reaching consequences. Rome now controlled the entire western Mediterranean, solidifying its position as the dominant power in the region. Carthage was razed to the ground, and its inhabitants were sold into slavery. This event not only ended the Third Punic War but also symbolized the beginning of Roman hegemony, which shaped the history of the Mediterranean for centuries to come.
