The Mysterious Scrap of Paper on the Beach

In early December 1948, passersby discovered the body of an unknown man on Somerton Beach in Adelaide. He was lying in the sand, dressed in a suit but without a hat, which was unusual for the time. He had no identification on him, making it difficult to identify him. The police found that all the labels had been carefully removed from his clothing, raising further questions about his identity and intentions.

Upon closer examination of the body, investigators found a small scrap of paper in a pocket with the words 'Tamám Shud.' This phrase comes from the Persian poetry collection Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam and means 'the end.' The book from which the paper was torn was later found in a car near the location where the body was discovered. Ciphers were found on its pages, which have yet to be deciphered.

Despite an intensive investigation, the identity of the Somerton Man remains a mystery. The case attracts the attention of both professionals and amateur detectives worldwide. Some speculate about his espionage background, while others look for connections with local residents. Although new theories emerge, none have yet provided a satisfactory explanation.
