The Eagle on the Cactus: The Birth of Tenochtitlán

On an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, a group of Aztecs stopped and gazed upon a fascinating scene. An eagle sat on a cactus, devouring a snake. For them, this was the sign they had been searching for. According to an ancient legend, this was to be the place where they would establish their new city. After years of wandering and searching, they had finally found their new home.

Tenochtitlán became the heart of the Aztec Empire, a place where cultures and ideas converged. The city grew into one of the largest and most significant cities of its time. Although it was destroyed by Spanish conquerors in the 16th century, its legacy endures to this day. On its ruins rose Ciudad de México, the capital of modern Mexico, which still bears traces of its illustrious past.
