The Fateful Fall of Tenochtitlán

On the shores of Lake Texcoco, Hernán Cortés's army gathered, preparing for the final assault on Tenochtitlán. The city, once the vibrant heart of the Aztec Empire, was now besieged and exhausted. The Aztecs were weakened not only by military confrontations but also by diseases brought by the Europeans. When Cortés's army stormed into Tenochtitlán, a battle for every street and house began. The Aztecs bravely defended themselves, but their resistance was in vain. After months of siege and with limited supplies, the city collapsed. The last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc, was captured, symbolizing the definitive end of the empire. Cortés triumphantly entered the destroyed city, which had once been a symbol of Aztec power.

The conquest of Tenochtitlán marked the beginning of a new era. The Spanish took control of vast territories and began to change the face of the continent. For the indigenous people, it meant the loss of freedom, culture, and lives. On the ruins of Tenochtitlán, a new city arose—Ciudad de México, which became the center of the Spanish colonial empire in the New World.
