Scottish King Fell on the Battlefield

On the slope near Flodden, the Scottish army gathered under the leadership of King James IV. The Scots had numerical superiority, and the king hoped that this campaign would weaken the English King Henry VIII, who was then on the continent. James IV decided to use his strong position to attack the English forces led by the Earl of Surrey.

Despite the initial advantage, the situation quickly turned. The English used the terrain and the experience of their soldiers to repel the Scottish attack. James IV, who personally engaged in the fight, fell on the front line. His death meant not only the loss of a leader but also the collapse of the morale of the Scottish soldiers. The battle ended in a crushing defeat for the Scots.

The consequences of the battle were catastrophic for Scotland. Political power immediately collapsed, and the country fell into chaos. James's son, the one-year-old James V, became king, leading to a long period of regency. The Battle of Flodden left deep scars in Anglo-Scottish relations and influenced the political scene for many years.
